Known locally by its Maori name, Kereru, New Zealand Pigeon is a locally common endemic of New Zealand.
The conservation of New Zealand Pigeons is particularly important to the native ecosystems due to the key role they play in the dispersal of seeds of native trees and shrubs too large to pass through the digestive tracts of other birds.
